In Python, it can be plotted using regplot() of the seaborn library. Simply set lowess=true, and voila! you've a smoothened curve instead of straight line without it getting too code-intensive. It comes handy when you just want to get the feel of the data and not spend too much time on this exercise before building models. And since it is based on the robust statsmodels package, it is fairly reliable too.
