You're in a team, two people are constantly arguing - one is for Scrum, the other for Kanban. Each is sure that their path is right, but the result? The team is stalling. Tension is growing, the project is on fire ??. I was in such a situation. And then I remembered the "Five Whys" technique - you just ask the question "why" five times, and suddenly everyone sees that the root of the conflict is not in the methodology at all. It worked like magic. Pain? Yes! But after that, people begin to hear each other. The main thing is not to be afraid of pain, through it comes the solution. The team exhales, the conflict goes away.

To resolve a clash over Agile methodologies, facilitate an open discussion, allowing both members to share their perspectives. Focus on common goals, such as delivering value to the customer. Highlight Agile's flexibility and encourage experimenting with a blended approach. Promote collaboration through team retrospectives, reinforcing shared ownership of decisions and fostering mutual respect for differing ideas.

Basically, create a neutral and safe environment for both team members to discuss their perspectives without judgment. Encourage each team member to articulate their concerns and viewpoints. Make sure they feel heard by actively listening and summarizing their key points. Remind the team members that they share a common goal—delivering high-quality work and meeting the team's commitments to stakeholders. By emphasizing shared outcomes, you can help shift the focus from differences in methods to the overarching purpose of the project. Revisit Agile's core principles (e.g., individuals and interactions, delivering value, adapting to change) and how both of their approaches can serve these principles.

The Agile methodologies need to be resolved when harmony is to be ensured among the team members. In one of my recent projects, two members started arguing over which methodology to use; whether Scrum or Kanban. It was not only affecting team dynamics but also delaying further proceedings. To resolve this, I led a team discussion where each one could let out his or her views and reasoning. During this open forum, both were able to let out their concerns and understand each other's perspectives. I oriented the discussion to our shared objective: serving our clients. I believe that we managed to pick out something from both methodologies together that could then be included in our work process.

First, start by facilitating an open discussion where each person can express their views without interruption. Acknowledge the strengths of both perspectives and focus on common Agile principles, such as delivering value and continuous improvement. Encourage a collaborative approach by suggesting an experiment and implementing a blend of their ideas for a sprint or two. Using data from the experiment, the team can assess what works best. This method fosters a sense of ownership and cooperation, as both members see their input valued while aligning with the team’s overall goals.
