Game productions is tough but you ALWAYS want to make gameplay and bug fixes priority period. You don't get a 2nd chance at a 1st impression and with all the teams hard work, when it's crunch time you want to make sure that once you release your game out in to the world they can easily enjoy it. Certain things are forgiveable in game development such as fan favorite features left out at launch, maybe graphic options things of that nature, but when you play that game it's got to work and it has to be fun.

User experience has to always be at the forefront of production prioritization when time is running out. Feature introduction & first time user experience has to be the top priority. Followed by P0 & P1 bug fixes. Additional cosmetic changes/ VFX can be deprioritized.

Clear communication with the team about priorities ensures everyone stays aligned, focusing on delivering a polished and playable product on time.

When deadlines loom, prioritization is key, but it's equally important to consider the player experience holistically. Beyond core mechanics and performance, ask: 'What will leave the strongest impression on players?' Sometimes this means focusing on the 'wow' factor—polished visuals, sound design, or a standout moment that players will remember. Also, be prepared to trim non-critical features ruthlessly—better to ship a smaller, polished game than a larger one riddled with compromises.
