Why do you think there is any difference in a "statistical" process than any other process. How about we start with a definition of a statistical project. We also have the pretty standard model of forming-storming-norming-performing. The idea that there was some type of conflict is by definition a normal part a teams evolution.

some time ago I was leading a project and needed a solution in a few months. There are several objectives/goals, and the two most contrasting ones include: 1. model accuracy/performance: we want something workable and have a reasonably high performance 2. computational cost: don't want to add too much computational cost and make cloud providers filthy rich. After understanding what needs to be done and what a good result looks like, I hosted a meeting and presented some data points that balance the above two points. By the end of it, most stakeholders were on board and we implemented it.
