A student in your classroom is facing bullying. How can you provide the support they need?

After 28 years working in high schools, there are many identifiers of bullying; but, the team, all faculty and staff, being on the same page about what a positive culture looks like can curb many of the issues ahead of time. Building trust throughout the student body about reporting this behavior and establishing no-contact contracts with students before situations escalate has proven to be a positive method of dealing with the problem in all the schools of which I have been a part.

Most of the schools and institutions do have anti-bullying committees as a policy; however, the need is to keep them active and create a whole school program from reporting to action on the bullies to ensure that students feel safe to report and talk about it. Picking up signs can also be done through holistic record keeping like, absenteeism, withdrawals, drop in academic performance or lack of interest in Co-curricular activities.

I feel as a individual we differ,our thinking pattern is different,like wise class room is diverse with different mentality under one roof, which is correct for one ,can't be not true/ appropriate for another. But a child has a tender heart which can be moulded by interesting stories,day to day counseling, making them understand right action and respecting each other, point of view. It is a gradual process but we can achieve.,lot of patience is needed.

Na minha experiência foi útil promover oficinas de conscientiza??o para o desenvolvimento de empatia na turma, reorganizar o mapeamento, oferecer apoio emocional ao estudante que estava enfrentando o problema e encaminhar para um profissional qualificado. N?o deixa de ser importante comunicar aos pais e outros professores.

Bullying is non negotiable and needs intervention as the soon the red flags appear. To address or prevent the issue schools must have a strong policy to offer as safety net and execute sanctions where needed. To me if respect to one another is the pivot around which the business of the school community moves , if all adult members display fairness and unbiased attitude towards all students to redress ,if trust is deeply embedded into the school climate , only then an empathetic open dialogue will help to address.

Once you have sufficient information, it is important to exercise respect and discretion when in communication with both families; getting them on the same page and allowing both families the freedom to meet with school staff privately to identify what the possible cause of the behavior may be. Bullying does not come from nowhere and there are always motivating operations and functional objectives (ex: deprivation from attention or control) which may not be easy to identify objectively from the perspective of any one person involved. It is also helpful to encourage both families to find time to talk and address or debrief after any traumatic or jarring (at the very least) experience with bullying; involving their child.

So, by creating a community mindset and building ties between students, open dialogue can exist. At the middle school level, I have found that even if the bullied scholar doesn't want or isn't ready to talk, another scholar will speak up on their behalf so that they can better support their friend until the bullied scholar is ready to come forward themselves.

O estudante precisa de espa?os seguros, longe de julgamentos, nos quais ele possa falar e ser ouvido. às vezes, ele n?o consegue falar, por isso trabalhar a escrita pode ajudar.

I believe that every school has their own anti bullying policies, the thing is, do students actually aware of this policies? The anti bullying campaign in every school should be LOUD and clear, so every individual in that school (including the staffs, teachers, and administrators) is entitled to follow the policy. A yearly review should also be included because the policies must up to date with the current trend.

Students must see that bullies receive consequences. Assigning appropriate discipline consequences to the bully once incidents have been reported, gives legitimacy to the reporting programs.

If your school doesn't have an anti-bullying policy or the policies aren't very effective as teachers, the best place to begin implementing policies is in our classrooms. By setting policies for classrooms that work, they can easily replicated in each class until they become part of the school culture.

Every school should have an anti-bullying policy. Be sure to follow the guidelines and enforce them consistently. It's important to listen actively to the student's concerns in order to address the issue effectively and show them that you take their concerns seriously. Follow up to demonstrate that bullying is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Es crucial para fomentar la empatía, no se debe invalidar los sentimientos que tiene el estudiante que sufre de acoso, ya que reconocer y validar sus emociones es fundamental para su bienestar emocional y para construir un entorno seguro y comprensivo.

Fostering empathy is the cornerstone of my class community. My classroom is designed around the PBL framework. For every project, my scholars must choose a partner(s) with whom they have not worked before. This ensures that different personalities must work together to complete a task, which in turn means scholars must learn to appreciate differences inside our classroom, thus creating a more inclusive environment. Not only will my scholars look to each other for support, but they will also know they are safe inside my classroom to be themselves.

Considero crucial proporcionar espacios en el aula donde los estudiantes puedan reflexionar sobre cómo ciertas acciones pueden impactar positiva o negativamente en sus emociones y en las de los demás. Además, involucrar a los estudiantes en el dise?o de distintos métodos y campa?as anti-bullying, se les otorga un rol protagónico en el proceso educativo, permitiéndoles sentir que poseen el conocimiento necesario y que no simplemente lo reciben pasivamente del docente. Esta autonomía fomenta un sentido de importancia y empoderamiento, ya que los estudiantes se reconocen como agentes activos de conocimiento y de cambio en su comunidad educativa.

I've found that empathy is often best taught in real life situations. It's easy to see kids with empathy, and those without based on comments coming in, and going out of class (as well as possible comments in class). Normally comments made by a student that hasn't shown empathy, but is now looking for it, is a prime time to let them know that if you need it, you should give it.

Fundamental para a cultura de paz, para o sentimento de perten?a a um ambiente de seguran?a e bem estar. O aluno se sente inserido e tem o poder de opinar e poder sem quem ele é, com as suas características.

Es importante que los estudiantes que han sido detectados como víctimas de bullying puedan ser apoyados por su familia, docentes e incluso compa?eros del mismo aula, con el fin de que no se sientan solos/as. Cuando sienten respaldo, les permite que el proceso sea más llevadero, al igual que la ayuda de profesionales que los apoyen en su estado emocional a través de talleres, charlas y apoyo personalizado. Esto les permitirá, ante todo, mejorar su autoestima y aprender a decir no, así como a poner límites a aquellos que son responsables del acoso en la institución. Además, parte del apoyo implica que los docentes trabajen en el aula con los estudiantes detectados como acosadores, para brindarles apoyo emocional también .

Criar uma rede de apoio dentro da sala de aula, transformá-la em um ambiente no qual os alunos a encontrem iguais, mas também igualdade em seus diferentes, isso possibilita o desenvolvimento de autoconfian?a.

O apoio da família no processo de cura após a descoberta é fundamental, a uni?o entre escola e família é necessária para que se trabalhe amplamente todos os sentimentos e traumas dos estudantes.

Importante ressaltar a capacita??o coletiva também, trazer fomento para que os estudantes entendam o que é e quais os impactos do Bullying. N?o raro o agressor também é vítima, por isso, ao capacitar a turma consegue-se ampliar os horizontes.

Acredito muito no protagonismo dos alunos, eles com a linguagem deles, no entendimento deles, para isso vejo como importante a figura e a a??o dos representantes de turma/classe.

A "Semana de Educa??o para Vida" que ocorre nas escolas públicas de Minas Gerais, no Brasil, s?o um exemplo de quando aplicar a capacita??o aos alunos. Essa?semana tem por objetivo discutir e trabalhar matérias que n?o constam obrigatoriamente no currículo como temas transversais: meio ambiente, sexualidade, pluralidade cultural, saúde, ética e trabalho e consumo. Palestras, grupos de conversa, vídeos, filmes e teatro podem ser utilizados como meio de capacitar os alunos contra o Bulling.

I want to add that a student’s feelings and experiences need to be validated to create a safe space for them to talk about it. If teachers and school professionals are dismissing claims or dismissing student concerns, this indirectly tells the student that they are not important and that their safety is not a priority.
