In my experience working as a psychotherapist on a multidisciplinary team, I’ve found that effective client advocacy often comes down to clear, respectful communication and a genuine understanding of each discipline’s perspective. I approach resistance by highlighting shared goals and emphasizing how each of our insights can contribute to the client’s overall progress. Building these collaborative relationships has helped me advocate for clients more effectively and ensures we’re all aligned in providing the best possible care.

Sometimes professionals seem like they can never agree with each other. And i can sympathise with that... Overall, we need to remember that we each have a job role to do. We are all looking for different patient needs and advocating them. If each professional didnt do this, they would not be doing their job..... For example, a nurse would care more about the patients medication than a social visit to perhaps their family's house for christmas. Whereas, a social worker may care more about the social visit than medication being given on time. And it is about working around that and finding a compromise.
