Struggling to bridge the gap between warehouse and delivery teams?

I have had numerous experiences wherein a gap was observed between a warehouse and delivery team. A successful Supply Chain network works with collaborative relation between warehouse and delivery. The following steps must be taken to bridge the gap: (a) Use unique identification number/barcode as part of warehouse management system for tracking the balance and location of an item. (b) Be careful about the life of an item if dealing with perishable goods. (c) Once an order is received, a Basic packaging must be carried out at warehouse before handing over the item to delivery team. (d) Necessary updation by scanning the barcode must be done immediately in WMS. (e) Break in communication leads to disruptions in an efficient supply chain.

Hurdle is necessary part of Ops in order to understand the challenges during day to operations. In daily hurdle we can discuss various points upon which we can improve and deliver better results i.e picking/ packing/storing of goods and materials in order to improve quality of shipments / delivery and better customer experience.

Faudrait retenir, que toutes personnes oeuvrant à tenir le stock d' un magasin fait partie de l' équipe magasin, et ils ont pour r?les de mettre les produits ou articles à disposition des équipes livraison. Ailleurs l'équipe magasin joue en même temps le r?le de livraison.

One of the ways my team was able to overcome this was to change the thought behind the warehouse worker vs. delivery driver dynamic (change in culture). What's most important is getting the job done as a team, we are only as effective as our team allows us to be, by having our warehouse workers assist with delivery and having our drivers assist with receiving, it created a mutual respect of the work that has to be put in by both teams. Now instead of a finger pointing game about who's to blame, the lines to respectful communication has been established and observed by all parties involved.

Create dedicated teams by geographical areas to include both warehouse and delivery teams prevents conflict and provides more flexibility. The personnel become one team through regular training sharing each other’s challenges resulting in practical solutions.

Implement clear and efficient communication channels between warehouse and delivery teams. Process should always be implemented horizontally across the network. One should always dive deep/ identify the root cause and corrective action to be taken wherever there is a process deviation.

Já participei de inúmeras implanta??es e posso afirmar que sim, a falta de alinhamento de processos é o que mais torna a opera??o logística inflexível a ponto de colapsar. Por outro lado, se o processo é bem discutido do ponto de vista de buscar a solu??o, temos pessoas engajadas o suficiente para acreditar na solu??o. Nesse ponto, já vi opera??es bem eficientes, n?o importando a complexidade do armazém e sim a robustez do processo. Para que o processo possa ser eficiente, o interlocutor deve ser respeitado assim como a voz de quem define o processo, uma autoridade respeitada a ponto de (n?o acatar simplesmente mas) evoluir a idéia em conjunto.

Enfatizar que o processo vai além da atividade isolada, criar conex?es que sejam assimiladas pelos colaboradores, a compreender que é só mais um passo dentro de uma grande engrenagem, que visa acomodar os interesses de quem investe, a empresa, com quem usufrui ou faz negócios com o que se oferece. Cada atividade, cada detalhe, pode fazer toda diferen?a e o processo disciplinado tem objetivo de garantir o sucesso do trabalho de todos.

Aligning processes is crucial for seamless operations. Map the order fulfilment process, identify bottlenecks, and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for warehouse and delivery teams to follow. This includes coordinated timing, handling procedures for fragile items, and a unified approach to returns/exchanges. Streamline operations, reduce errors, and improve customer experience by implementing these SOPs and continuously monitoring for further refinements.

Fazer com que a equipe de entrega entenda o processo de picking, embalagem, carregamento (saida do depósito) é muito importante.

Enfatizar que o básico é fundamental. O simples faz toda diferen?a. Nada extraordinário, a menos que seja uma exigência de momento. Exemplos que possam fazer com que se calce o sapato do outro, se possível, de seu cliente, pode dar clareza de propósito e objetivo.

Cross-Training bridge the knowledge gap of team members who are ignorant of the functions and tasks of each department couple with the organisation's expectation. For instance, if a customer service staff attends a training session with the warehouse operation/marketing manager, he or she will value every customer; knowing that each customer successfully attended to will add to the progress report of the warehouse operation. Training Together bring to the consciousness of team members the proverbial word 'all hands must be on deck.'

Na minha experiência, além do conteúdo funcional de um fluxo de trabalho, é importante apresentar de maneira respeitosa e seguindo o perfil do time, o objetivo dessa funcionalidade. N?o somente, o fluxo de uma separa??o mas sim, onde se encaixa na cadeia, n?o somente o processo do packing mas sim, o cuidado que é necessário. Além do KPI, é importante posicionar o usuário sobre qual é seu papel no processo.

Implementar um WMS para realizar a rastreabilidade desde a saida até a entrega é o ponto crucial do processo. Colocar coletores do carregamento e com tablets na entrega teremos um integra??o muito boa no sistema e processo. Automatizar e treinar as equipes com coletores e tablets aumenta o conhecimento e interesse das equipes para melhorar o processo.

Existem diversos métodos de integra??o hoje em dia. Alinhado a um objetivo que muitas vezes, s?o oferecidos via planejamento estratégico, cabe ao processo bem definido apresentar a regra de negócio para em seguida, aplicar a tecnologia. Nesse mundo cada vez mais urgente, os parceiros de integra??o devem ser robustos o suficiente para suportar fluxos de trabalho resilientes o suficiente para tratar exce??es como exce??es e processos normais como processos normais. é importante avaliar também que além de softwares parceiros de integra??o para cobrir todo ciclo de atendimento, é cada vez mais comum, sobretudo no hemisfério norte, a ado??o de integra??es de tecnologia com equipamentos de automa??o. Uma boa cloud é fundamental para sustenta??o.

Auch hier ist eine gut funktionierende Technik enorm wichtig. Das Handling mit den Ger?ten und der Software sollte ebenfalls verst?ndlich und einen leichten Umgang aufweisen. Komplexe Systeme und komplizierte Programmoberfl?chen erschweren den Umgang. Daher sollte auf eine etablierte Software zurück gegriffen werden. Unbekannte Software hat den Nachteil, dass meist Handbücher nur als schlechte übersetzung zur Verfügung steht oder diese entweder nicht zum Produkt passt oder hierfür ein spezielles "Studium" notwendig ist. Andernfalls l?sst sich bei etablierten Systemen auch bei Partnerfirmen der Umgang erfragen oder bei einer Hotline mit Sitz n?heren Umfeld.

There should be a proper tracking of each matrix upon which are working and by implementing Kaizen we can always improve our quality/ customer experience. A small step/ approach in process improvement can add value into operations and have bigger impact. In warehouse operations we analyse / summaries data and always focus rigorously to improve upon those matrics/areas/function where we are lagging so that we can deliver best to our customers in each possible ways.

From my delivery station days, I remember that there was a correlation between scan accuracy and packages missing at the time of delivery. If scan accuracy is high there are less packages missing during delivery. In the warehouse, after safety and people, I strongly believe quality (accuracy) of scanning feeds great productivity results!

One thing I found helpful on knowing the gap of the warehouse dispatch and transport delivery is having the correct form to use, wherein confirmations between handovers are visible. Moreover applying and monitoring Turn around time (TAT) is an added benifit in which you can monitor performances and gaps between dispatch preparation and transport deliveries to its destination.

Delivery teams can be third party organizations separate from the warehouse (as can laborers), organization, active management and communication is essential in the operations process.

Implementing technology such Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) can be extended to the delivery team, providing real-time status updates on delivery times and expected delivery dates. This integration can help the team plan their projects and work schedules more effectively. Additionally, automating various tasks can reduce turnaround times, thereby improving efficiency across both teams.

One thing that has helped in the past was dissecting the different processes into smaller pieces. This has assisted in identifying current hurdles/bottlenecks and also be in a position to anticipate possible future hurdles or bottlenecks. Logistics is very dynamic and it's always best to be in a position where strengths and weaknesses are easily identifiable and attended to or exploited in time to give you the edge. Since there's no perfect solution or one size fits all, continously improving and aligning with stakeholders can bear great rewards.

It depends on type of business. Like B2B/O2C type of business . process should be streamlined. And SOP Should be in place. If all the teams follows the SOPs there will be no miscommunication. Team/s should be aware of business urgencies. Whether the items in warehouse shortshipped or supplied complete order. Delivery team should send the packaging of order atleast 24 hours in advance so that team in wh could align the order accordingly. Exceptions are always welcome for spot delivery... In such situation Manager should handle and priortize the activity for warehousetam taking the responsibility of other orders which are already in que. Thanks.
