Dive into the debate: How do you juggle password safety with efficiency in your home office?
-
Juggling password safety and efficiency? Gotta get a password manager. Password safety requires strong and unique password for every application you log into. Unless you're some sort of genius world-record-breaking memory expert, there is no way to memorize the average 100 passwords we all need. Think of all the places you log in. Without a password manager, its human nature to resort to easy-to-remember passwords, and re-using passwords. According to the National Cybersecurity Alliance 2023 Oh Behave! report, only 38% of people use unique passwords for their accounts. If a big company gets breached and your password is leaked through no fault of your own? That password will be attempted at every other place you may use it. Ouch!

In my home office, I balance password safety with efficiency by using a password manager, ensuring strong, unique passwords without the hassle of remembering them all. Multi-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security without slowing down workflows. Regularly updating passwords and enabling biometric logins where possible streamlines access while maintaining robust protection. This approach keeps security high without sacrificing productivity.

PSWD Best Practices include: * Password rotations with COMPLEX requirements every 60 or 90 days * Single Signon (SSO) simplifies security prompts & user interactions. It costs extra $$$ but improves security & reduces help desk resets * Password managers allow employees to create and store unique passwords in an automated manner, rather than "writing these down" & managing each access need individually & manually * VPN - encrypts online session * MFA - requires added steps * BitLocker * GPO restrictions TIP - starting/ending PSWD with special characters meet COMPLEXITY rules plus even allows incrementing. Examples: $$StaySafe111$$ ... $$StaySafe222$$ ...$$StaySafe333$$ ... Incrementing allows one to fall back to prior known one.
