What strategies do you use to align your sales efforts with company goals?
-
Define Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound targets for your sales team that directly support broader company objectives. For example, if the company aims to increase market share, set sales targets that reflect that goal. Encourage open communication within the team to share insights and feedback. This helps refine strategies and keeps everyone focused on the common objectives. Leverage sales data to track performance metrics such as conversion rates, average deal size, and customer acquisition costs. This data helps identify trends and areas for improvement. Foster collaboration between sales and other departments (e.g., marketing, customer service) to ensure a unified approach towards achieving company goals.

This is a journey, not a quick answer. In my experience, the #1 driver of this is when the company has unclear goals and is moving the goal post all the time. I would start there. Get your goals locked in and THEN come up with the strategy to hit them. Most people misunderstand sales strategy and sales people. What makes a great sales person is that they are EMOTIONAL. They connect with people and make them feel compelled to take action. This makes for great sales performers, but its tricky to manage. When you take a highly emotional person and constantly pivot their objectives (Especially if it cost them money), they are going to quickly lose faith... If they lose faith, they show that in their emotions, lose effectiveness and leave.

Aligning your sales strategy with company goals starts with clarity and connection. First, ensure your team fully understands the larger objectives, so they see how their work directly supports them. Set specific targets that match these goals and review progress regularly. Use data to track performance, making sure you're on course or adjusting when necessary. Communication is key—keep your team informed, motivated, and involved in the process. How do you keep your sales strategy aligned with your company’s goals while staying adaptable?
