R&D is all about learning and application henceforth, throughout your career, you should never stop learning new things and advancing your knowledge.

Passion for learning new things is the most vital reason so far I think. Need to be curious and keep alignment with what is going around.

One thing that I have found challenging over the years is explaining technical challenges (or what seem to be impossibilities at times) to non-technical stakeholders. For example, trying to explain to the marketing team why it is not possible to deliver x,y,z while ALSO tasting good and staying within the budget. It’s critical to have these conversations early and with a teamwork mindset instead an “us” (R&D) vs.”them” (Marketing) mentality. Refining your technical communication and collaboration skills can help you shift from a technical contributor to a technical leader. Important thing to remember: you don’t need to manage people to be a leader. We need leaders at every level!
