Indexing are helpful in larger tables which has more read and less write operations. Indexes in a larger table that has more write operations would take more time to load so better to disable the indexes before loading the data and enable them after loading. Update the index statistics periodically.

Query design plays a major role in datawarehouse when it comes to fetch the data. Designing a query varies based on the stages or layers in a data warehouse project. It might be different while pulling the data from System of Records to the table/view used in the visualization. Few basic things to be considered as to pull only required columns, data (correct filters), less joins etc.

Query design definitely helps to improve the overall query performance. Some of the ways such as using CTE and efficiently using WHERE statements.

Large tables are usually partitioned horizontally where this large table is split into smaller chunks and that can be done by using common columns such as date. Another way is to partition the table vertically which will allow a user who is not using all the columns to query faster.

Data or table partitioning depends on the size of the table or the historical data needs to be stored in the table. It is always advisable to make sure the data retention policy of the organization and keep only data for those many years.

Most of the organizations have different size of clusters which are used across multiple teams.
