Keeping track of clear goals and the decisions made in iterative processes is probably one of the most important tools, especially when dealing with undecisive stakeholders and partners. No one wants to contradict themselves. Having a reliable record of meetings, decisions, and the responsible people related to them has been useful in every project I worked on - from my first game jams with undecisive teammates, throughout the university with feedback from professors, to contract work with multiple or indecisive decision-makers involved. I never regretted documentation. It also goes in both directions, not only will it help you stand your ground, it is a great tool to track progress and avoid setbacks in development.
