For example many unity devs and small studios who dont have a vfx artist would purchase your vfx the aim would be to use it in a game and as AAA studios have their own inhouse VFX team your target platform should be Mobile and VR. Creates enough youtube videos about your VFX assets to be discoverable.

While working on a project, keep a "diary" of your work, so when it comes time to ask for shots and breakdowns, you know the pertinent information such as the shot number or asset name, along with versions and filenames. Also, look at demo reels that you like, or are very successful, and try adjusting your reel to have some of the characteristics that you admired from other reels. Don't be afraid to adjust and tweak often, but also give yourself some time to let it sit and then look at it with fresh eyes.

Think of it like cleaning your house. If you have to do a big clean before guests come you may stay up the whole night making it happen. If you clean a little every day, you’re in a good spot in case you get surprise visitors. Casually keep your portfolio up to date and don’t forget that you may need it when you least expect it. It’s never fun when you have to follow up getting laid off or making another kind of career shift with three straight days of unpaid demo reel work.
