In my experience, automation of cloud security is of utmost importance for any organization that are scaling their business. Cloud security automation involves automating security policies , IAM permission management, applying firewalls & network comfiguarion, threat monitoring & detection, Vulnerability scanning & detection etc. Automation of cloud security policies with the help of External tools& Infrastructure as code prevents and mitigate security vulnerabilities & risks in a more streamlined way .

As I understand it, there are 2 realms of discussion - Deployment mechanism Choice of deployment mode as serverless or containerized . In case of serverless, you are pretty much relying on cloud service provider's way of handling security aspects of the actual host instance under the hood but when we are pushing our piece of code inside a container, any possibility of data corruption or say Denial of Service attacks can't be ruled out and here we can utilise the "Security as Code" pattern where we can have a learning model and respective throttling mechanism as well - Infrastructure Security & maintenance Automation is really going to help here due to changing landscape. Secure design patterns specific to CSPs should be used.

I experienced a data breach once and it wasn't a nice experience at all. On the other hand it helped the organisation to significantly improve their security procedures and approaches. Whilst there is no 100% guarantee it wont happen again, I was way more convinced to be well prepared and in the unfortunate case it happens again I could still look in the mirror knowing we did the best we could to avoid it from happening. Always remember: Security doesn't matter until it's too late. :)
