How do you write with a consistent and recognizable voice?

Knowing your audience is the first and foremost step before you set on your writing journey. ~Understand that who are your target audiences, for whom you are writing ~ What their pain points and challenges ~ Create contents which would be helpful in solving their problems ~ And your narrative should be such, with which they can resonate well

Audience-first. Empathy is one of the writers' most valuable tools. Walk a minute in the shoes of your audience and understand what they need to hear in order to be motivated or persuaded toward your desired outcome. Only after doing that work should you think about what you'd like to say.

Consistency is a key feature of your writing that help your target audiences to associate with your content. As per my personal experience, my audiences immediately associate my writing with a specific kind of carousel that I create. Even consistently creating your content on regular basis is equally important, or the audiences tend to forget us after a while.

Being authentic is the most crucial aspect of professional writing. This is one specific thing that give us that particular specific flavour of our writing. Authenticity is addictive that instantly grabs your audiences’ attention and interest and they start associating with the specific kind of conversation that you create. Authenticity always wins when it comes to writing, this help us develop our unique identity.

Authenticity starts by imitating others as it shows you what other styles are out there - by researching and reading you understand or get a sense of how the community communicates. As you grow in confidence about your ability and the knowledge about what you are writing about, you start to make conscious decisions about your language, your word choice, whether you agree or disagree with arguments or topics in the discipline/organisation you are writing for or within. This is a process and authenticity starts by understanding yourself as a writer, your values and who you are as a person. As confidence grows, your true authentic self will show through practice and engagement with others. Don't rush it.

Through my years of teaching I have witnessed the same mistakes or misconceptions over and over again. Here is one thing NOT to do: stream-of-thought. Often, I find individuals writing as though they are speaking. This results in hard to understand sentences, horrible misuse of punctuation or the lack thereof, and rambling paragraphs that are better reserved for personal journals. All in all, make sure you have a clear purpose in your writing. Play with your punctuation and it will come across as a particular voice. Tone matters but punctuation, grammar and word choice matter all the more.
