In my experience, SWOT analysis isn't the primary tool for finding strategic advantages or developing strategies. Instead, I use it to evaluate a strategy after its formulation, identifying weaknesses or threats and how it addresses these challenges. I think it's effective for this purpose. However, for strategy development, it's less useful. Many undertake this exercise because it's a common practice, but in my practice, using this framework rarely leads to significant insights for company strategy development.

Always include various stakeholders in SWOT analysis especially your front line team members and also your customers. Additionally, SWOT should lead to actionable outcomes that need to be implemented afterwards. Strategic planning and SWOT analysis sometimes are done only once a year as an exercise without concrete actionable plans and follow up.
