AI/ML topics are less interesting as compared to films/movies/sports etc. (barring some exceptions). Hence, it requires effort to engage your audience. It's important to know pain points and priorities of audience. Secondly, it's important to know whether audience has technical or business background. Based on this information we have to build our story. For example if we are presenting Anomaly analytics application to Finance leadership, and their current pain points is gap in controls, then we can demonstrate how our application can identify potential errors in reports automatically. Now if we have a technical audience, we should discuss more in detail the technical components, novelty & challenges faced and how they were overcome.

One way to force yourself to know your audience is to ask yourself the question: “What specifically would make this a successful presentation for the audience?” In many ways, knowing your audience is important but commanding the perspective your audience is coming from is even more paramount because this will ultimately determine how your message lands.
