One other great technique of using Smart Objects is to bring vectors previously created in Adobe Illustrator into Photoshop. You can simply copy (cmd/ctrl+C) and paste (cmd/ctrl+V) them from Illustrator and choose the option of pasting as a 'Smart Object' in the pop-up dialog box in PS. I find it very helpful in my creative process, especially when dealing with logotypes, icons and illustrations brought into composite artwork.

3 How to use smart filters in Photoshop?

Once you have a smart object, you can apply any filter to it as a smart filter. To do this, select the smart object layer and choose a filter from the Filter menu or Filter Gallery. Adjust the settings and options of the filter and click OK. You will see a filter mask and a filter name under the smart object layer in the Layers panel, which you can use to hide or reveal the effect of the filter on certain areas of the image. Double-clicking on the filter name or icon allows you to edit its settings or change its blending mode and opacity. To add more filters to the same smart object, simply repeat this process, and you can reorder, disable, or delete the filters by dragging, clicking, or right-clicking on them in the Layers panel.
