How do you use relationships to advance your career?

Career vision, for me, is a subset of the journey of life. While many people compartmentalize 'Work' and 'Life', the best rhythm takes place when the 2 are in balance. viz. your work is what engages you the most, via most of your senses. And you life becomes intellectually and emotionally richer via your work experience. Ultimately, life is about holding the things / events/ people / experiences in balance; and that's the art which leads one to say, '" live a balanced life"

Absolutely, having a clear career vision is important l for success. As a career success coach, I encourage my clients to set both short-term and long-term objectives. Short-term goals might include improving specific skills or networking within your industry, while long-term goals could involve achieving a certain position or level of expertise. Identifying the skills and knowledge you need to develop is also key. When you have a well-defined career vision, clear goals, and being aware of your skills and challenges are important foundational steps required for building meaningful professional relationships and achieving success in your career.

I think we should take it easier - if we concentrate on our career issues too much we can burn out. And we should know that all of this might be only an experiment for you. One day, waking up, you can realize that your goals are changed - and it is normal.

Well, this is on Relationships.. Relationship building at work, in my experience are of 3 broad categories : (1) for visibility (2) for accelerated learning from those who have 'been there' and (3) for the sheer act of respecting and learning from peers, seniors and other staff. The motive behind each is thus fairly different; thus the manifestations too. The onus hence lies on the individual themselves, on what their intent is. Suspending all judgement, I would say, if one is 'comfortable in their skin' with the role they take on, there should be no complain. It is when one is going beyond their realm of comfort does she/he need to reflect, whether the relationship is serving their intent.. or not

The most important thin - is sincerity. If you want to build good relationship - you should be sincere. You can't accomplish any excellent recommendations about building your network without it.

Using someone's feedback and advice for developing your career and skills try not to forget to trust yourself - your feelings, your critical reflection and common sense.

Aha! Aspirations are simple. To be able to positively impact maximum lives, and enable others too, to reach "for their greater good" (this also happens to be the motto of my esteemed alma mater, XLRI) The above in essence is what guides me in whatever I take up, be it in my vocation or hobby or extending my capabilities, from which others would benefit too

Absolutely, you should be able to demonstrate your strengths and present you in honorable way. When you share your accomplishments with your network you increase your self-esteem as an expert.

In my experience, an organization is akin to a very large jig-saw puzzle. What I mean is, every piece of the puzzle Does fit into the overall frame. However, one needs to KNOW which piece they are looking for. And to what extent does it resemble the adjacent pieces. Thus, its only when one starts noticing patterns, will they be able to visualise the larger picture. So also life in an organization. We are but One of those many pieces who make the organization. We need to know where we fit in, and how our being there makes ALL the difference. In a nutshell, we are all made of MATTER; and ultimately what we Do for others and for the planet is what MATTERS

Of course, helping to someone we shouldn't forget about the balance of our own interests and other's. And we should be able to choose the correct projects for collaborating - only if the project corresponds with your career goals.
