"Iniciar por crear el curso" es el equivalente de mediados de siglo en el mercadeo, a crear el producto y después se buscar a quien venderle. ... Partamos de lo esencial el resultado de aprendizaje no es el medio, por tanto el uso de recursos multimedia/transmedia serán herramientas para potenciar referidos resultados. Es fácil caer en la tentación e incluir recursos que pueden ser de gran atractivo (multimedia) pero de poca funcionalidad en atención al objetivo buscado.

Este proverbio de los jesuitas citado por Silvia Bacher da cuenta de lo importante que es conocer al público objetivo y crear los contenidos para ese público particular. En una organización en donde sea posible hacerlo, se puede indagar entre las mismas personas que van a recibir los contenidos para entender qué tipo de contenidos funcionarían mejor para que estas personas. También hay que trabajar en conjunto con los SME para acordar los objetivos de aprendizaje que ayudarían a mejorar los desempe?os.

2 Follow multimedia principles

Using multimedia and animation does not guarantee effective learning; rather, evidence-based principles should be followed to ensure that media support learners, rather than distracting or overloading them. The multimedia principle suggests utilizing words and pictures instead of words alone, while the coherence principle encourages excluding extraneous words, pictures, and sounds. The modality principle recommends using spoken words instead of printed words when presenting graphics. The redundancy principle suggests avoiding presenting the same information in both spoken and printed words. Additionally, the signaling principle highlights important features of media with cues such as arrows, labels, or headings. Segmenting the media into manageable chunks and allowing learners to control the pace is also important, as is providing learners with relevant prior knowledge before presenting complex media (the pre-training principle).

When creating multimedia content for my online course, I always remind myself that more does not equal better. Simply adding flashy graphics, animations, video, and sound without purpose can quickly overwhelm and distract learners. So I'm intentional about applying proven multimedia principles as I design each component. I focus on using words and visuals together for maximum impact. I cut any flashy extra elements that don't directly support learning objectives. I provide audio narration for visual information when possible and avoid duplicating the same text on-screen. I also make sure to integrate cues like labels and headings so learners can easily locate key information.

Beware animations and video. Unless they add value to the content, or help highlight or simplify a message, you should be very careful how you add multimedia to learning. If it doesn't add value to the learning, remove it or reduce it.

Learners today prefer learning via video format. If you don't believe me, look at the statistics on how many people use YouTube and Tik Tok every single day to learn new things. Not only is the video format more engaging and allows you to build a better emotional connection with your audience, but it also improves accessibility, accommodating learners with dyslexia and other learning challenges. Studies show that video demonstrates significantly higher knowledge retention compared to text.

Según estudios de distintas universidades que ofrecen clases en Coursera, los porcentajes de retención en los videos son mayores si los clips duran 6 minutos o menos. Da mejores resultados preparar la clase para ello, en lugar de segmentar una clase tradicional no pensada para las plataformas. Las placas de powerpoint no deben repetir textualmente lo que están diciendo los capacitadores, es mejor leer las palabras clave. No hay mostrar imágenes que no sean relevantes y a todas las imágenes hay que darles un contexto, una explicación. Si se hace un sumario de los pasos o los temas que se explicaron, conviene mostrarlos en una diapositiva final.

3 Choose the right media and tools

When creating multimedia and animation, you may choose from various types of media and tools, depending on your learning outcomes, content, and audience. Images, for example, can be used to show real-world examples, convey emotions, or create visual metaphors. You can edit and enhance such images using tools like Canva, Pixlr, or Photoshop. Audio may be used to narrate content, provide instructions, or add sound effects. Audacity, Soundtrap, and GarageBand are among the tools available to record and edit audio. Video can be used to demonstrate skills, show scenarios, or tell stories. Loom, Powtoon, and Camtasia are some of the tools that can be used to record and edit video. Animation is a great way to show movement, change, or cause and effect. Vyond, Animaker, and Adobe Animate are some of the tools that can help in creating and editing animation. Interactive media can enable learners to manipulate, explore, or experiment with content. H5P, Articulate Storyline, and Adobe Captivate are some of the tools that can be used for this purpose.

The choice of media and tools heavily depends on the material you're looking to teach and your learners' preferences. Our preferred methods are green-screen, lightboard, and animation. Green-screen is great if you want to include slides and graphics. Lightboard is excellent as an alternative to a traditional whiteboard. You can look at your learner and write on the board. We find that it's particularly effective for teaching technical subjects. Many learners enjoy animation because of its storytelling aspect.

La selección del elemento multimedia a incorporar va mucho más allá de simplemente la estética, ya que cada uno tienen unas serie de bondades que debemos alinear con el propósito y partiendo de allí seleccionar el recurso a implementar. ... Es muy común escuchar en mesas de trabajo, como saltan vertiginosamente del titulo del tema a seleccionar directamente entre las opciones como si eso garantiza que se logra el objetivo. y pues no, debemos pensar en el público, en el propósito de la lección/tema/modulo la usabilidad y el impacto que puede tener en los mismos.

Si tenemos que realizar un top ten de los actores del proceso y los stakeholders en general, seguramente los comentarios de los estudiantes serán la fuente de mayor interés al momento de evaluar los desarrollos que incorporemos o implementemos en nuestras ofertas formativas. Ahora, existe métricas que nos pueden ayudar de evaluar por ejemplo el tiempo de visualización y consecuente retención de los mismos.

I chunk content into short, digestible segments and give learners control over pacing. Following these evidence-based principles takes a little more upfront effort, but pays off by boosting engagement and comprehension without overloading learners with extraneous information. We can add various creative interactions during our e-learning content to help it being more engaging but in terms of multimedia, I think the videos as demos with voiceovers will surely support your e-learning content. As for the animations the graphics and the slide animations can help you here.

A veces funcionan muy bien los videos con entrevistas breves a los SME de la organización. No todos están preparados para dar una clase, pero sí para responder preguntas puntuales que ayudan a entender el tema. Los esquemas animados son muy útiles cuando hay un concepto complejo o un proceso de varios pasos.
