How do you use industry standards in your 3D modeling?

From a design and collaboration perspective on a project, it is important to note that the Lead Appointed Party must clearly specify within the contract BIM Execution Plan (BEP) the nominated naming conventions for model elements, colour schemes, data requirements, and file formats to ensure a streamlined and easy to use 3D federated model during the design (Capex) stage of the project lifecycle. This can then be utilised going forward during asset handover and the beginning of (Opex) stage for Facilities Management (FM).

Besides file formats and recommended geometric functions. I think industry standards give me black boxes for collaborating with others on the same line. A good example is fillets and chamfers. As sharp edges can easily cut the assemblers' hands, incorrect numbers can result in malfunctional mattings. So, I would professionally respect the industry standards just to avoid the bad consequences.

Applying industry standards in my studio work takes a lot of human resources. In our everyday modeling work we follow our base standards for Units and File/object naming conventions. When we do something for reusing later, a library item, we apply strict topology rules, bake any 3rd parity plugins into mesh, follow UV standards. This is a balance between "work for standard" and "work for result"

Create a checklist based on industry standards. I like make cloud syncing my work with my file structures. Inside my design projects, like my SolidWorks project, I like to specify the material, texture, and surface finish just to complete my checklist. When reviewing each revision, I like to start with my checklist, like change on side from original surface finish to milled finish, specifying the change of dimensions and tolerances.

I agree with the above mentioned points. But for improvement of realism and authentic these standards are not fully responsible. 3d modeling standards helpful to run the studio smoothly but for improvement of realism and aesthetic one should also requires artistic sense and vision.

Industry standards also contribute in creating a universal standard thus allowing for smooth transition if a project is worked upon by multiple people. The degree to which each firm inculcated depends on their scale, project requirement and ones work flow.

Checking industry standards should be implemented as frequently as possible during the 3D modeling projects. Unless we know some reference as a fact, like we know the major diameter of M6 is barely below 6 mm, we should check the standards. Once there is a question, check the references. Once there is feedback, check the standards. In this way, we can avoid a lot of mistakes and potential problems.

Latest in the technology makes it more easier to predict the industrial standards, we are in an era that we can have all the uncharted the undisclosed and the bizarre put on the screen with such an ease if we have the correct tools to do it, possibly imagining the impossible and to work with the tools to get there.And let the audience appreciate the and get indulged in the high quality experience.
