There are many examples and studies now available to make effective decisions data has changed the overall landscape studying user responses and acceptability. As the term itself defines it is user centric so it makes this job more difficult as there are endless possibilities for a good UI. It's always better to study and have focused approach with goals to be achieved by users while designing UI.
The second step is to research your users and their needs. Who are your target audience? What are their demographics, motivations, pain points, and goals? How do they use your system or product? What are their expectations and preferences? You can use various methods to collect data about your users, such as surveys, interviews, personas, user journeys, and analytics.
Often people think of the method first but it’s helpful to focus on what you’re trying to answer, and other considerations like budget, timeline, and what data/artifacts/empathy you’ll need to make a decision or influence stakeholders.
When it comes to research I always go with qualitative data instead of quantitative. You want to be able to understand the users to convert their feedback into an actionable plan. You should be able to replace assumptions with real-life facts. Keep in mind - you are building a service or product that is targeted to a specific group. Ask how they feel using the service/product, and what would they have imagined or wanted. Where are the paint points or confusions - These are key-facts to the way of improvement.
Test the multiple paths a user takes to convert. Look at results, they reflect what users are actually doing. This may be quick or slow depending on the complexity and kind of user's demographics, motivations, pain points, and goals.
The third step is to design your UI based on your goals and user research. You should follow the best practices and principles of UI design, such as simplicity, clarity, consistency, feedback, and accessibility. You should also use data to inform your design choices, such as colors, fonts, layouts, images, icons, and interactions. You can use tools like Adobe XD, Figma, or Sketch to create your UI mockups and prototypes.
AI driven UI designing seems to be the future, for increasing effectiveness and efficiency in designing an UI. Google's Appsheet is good step towards this direction.
UI follows structure and user patterns set by UX and the research. It's imperative that the styling is appropriate for the visual language and branding. Some companies like to buy design systems and others can afford to build them from the start. Besides Figma, Adobe XD or Sketch there's also Invision and UXPin.
When it comes to UI it's crucial to create a plan of a structure that incorporates the previously collected quantitative/qualitative data. We use a design studio work shop, a very impactful method to get more vision and depth on what the actual thing should/could look like. For the UI we have a Design System which supports consistency throughout all services.
Study similar applications and their user patterns, styles and visual language to create a prototype. As simple as that. The design matters more than the tool, but Figma makes it easy when it comes to creating components and switching/iterating states.
The fourth step is to test your UI with real users and collect feedback. You should test your UI early and often, using different methods and tools, such as usability testing, A/B testing, heatmaps, eye tracking, and user feedback. You should aim to test your UI with a representative sample of your target users, and ask them to perform realistic tasks and scenarios. You should also observe and record their behavior, reactions, and comments.
Usability testing is like a treasure hunt, revealing the secrets of how easy, memorable, satisfying, and learnable a product truly is. However, it's important to set clear research objectives and decide what you want to "uncover". Are you looking to delve into a problem space, brainstorm new ideas, or evaluate an existing concept? Most organisations avoid this fantastic 'key' and get going to unlock the door for a fantasy solution.
Try to avoid your own perspectives or views that leads single sided test result. Biases can changes the original outcome to prejudice result. I prefer unmoderated study tests many time
It's a common believe that, UX process should be little bit faster. If I want to priority steps in UX process based on deadline, I always keep Usability testing or user feedback as highest priority apart from researching and designing the solution. In one of the projects, I had done usability testing with 5 different users to understand their though process but after completing the testing, I had to change the design based on their feedback. I understand that most of the users who are using this particular application always wear gloves for their daily activities, so I had changed my design to adapt this feature. I had simply increased height of the button. In conclusion, UX testing is best way to verify our design with user needs.
Once we have a first version in Figma that mirrors the user's feedback, we evaluate and create different scenarios of what could be still answered by more feedback. So we go back to the users and show them what we did. These feedbacks are worth exceeding the time that was actually allocated to you. In the end, it will save everyone's time and negative sentiment over the product/service.
Users's feedback reveal where to improve and iterate and is the most important. Without user there isn't a designer. Without designers there is users handling clunky processes or paths.
The fifth step is to analyze your data and evaluate your UI design. You should use both quantitative and qualitative data to measure your UI performance and user satisfaction. You should compare your data with your goals and metrics, and identify the strengths and weaknesses of your UI design. You should also look for patterns, trends, insights, and opportunities to improve your UI.

Constant testing is the norm of a product's life cycle. We develop - We test - We improve. We use various services to collect data on how our users are using our product/service. These data are held in specific research repositories for analyses to compare goals and metrics. Business and users goals comes into play when analyzing data. This gives perspective to influence stakeholders and show evidence/proof based designs and how the users are reacting. Depending on the use, this can affect profits, conversions or other important metric that stakeholders may be trying to reach.
The sixth step is to iterate your UI based on your data analysis and feedback. You should make changes and improvements to your UI design, and test them again with users. You should repeat this process until you achieve your desired results and meet your users' needs. You should also monitor and update your UI design as your system or product evolves and as your users' expectations change.
Set your project / team up to continuously test and learn. Any research done will only give you an outcome for a snapshot in time. People and their needs evolve make sure you can continuously learn and adapt
