A tip I given was to repeat the person's name back to them and mention their name at least three times throughout the conversation. This technique helps with forming a better memory association of who they are in correlation to their name. For example, lets say you meet Kim, once she says, "Hello I'm Kim, from marketing." You can reply with "Hello Kim, which firm do you represent?" This not only shows that you are engaging in the conversation but acknowledging who she is as well. The use of mnemonic, can also be used. For example, you can remember her name easier if you associated with something you know of such as the cartoon character Kim Possible.
