When you are talking to your international clients and partners: 1: Standing up straight shows them you are confident, even if you have weak English skills. They will see that you are serious about doing business and respect you more. 2: Leaning a little forward while talking shows your clients and partners that you are interested in what they are saying. It helps them feel that you are paying attention and care about working with them. This helps build trust, even if you have weak English skills.

I teach Business English. My students are primarily high-level executives who are always busy and wish they would not need to "waste" their time learning English. Finding ways to make our time together count is key. My approach? Watch THEM and adjust. Sometimes, I have an entire lesson planned out, but the student comes in worried about that one deadline they need to meet, or that challenging meeting they urgently need to prepare for. A common challenge that many of my Business English students encounter is the native speaker who speaks too quickly. During the conversation, they may nod along and smile, but internally, they are trying as hard as possible just to keep pace. This can cause anxiety and build a wall between the speakers. In the business world, this is problematic and doesn't allow for a fair negotiation. When doing business with someone who isn't a native speaker of your language, it is important to slow down a little bit. Conversely, as a non-native speaker, it's important to prepare for these situations by practicing them in a safe space. These actions will likely lead to a much more comfortable and fruitful conversation for both sides.
