How do you update your account management training?

To continuously enhance my account management skills, I engage in ongoing professional development. This includes attending relevant workshops, webinars, and industry conferences to stay updated on the latest trends and strategies. I also seek feedback from colleagues and mentors, and regularly review and update my account management techniques based on real-world experiences and evolving client needs. This iterative approach ensures my account management training remains current and effective.

As well as ongoing professional development, reading key Industry trends, I also try researching as if i were the client. It helps give a different perspective on how easy it is to find the data freely, so you can empathize with the client in their search of industry data. Also reading your clients latest white paper to see upcoming projects or areas of investment or looking at your clients latest events they have attended, they usually post about this on their. Social media / website and you can see where they are looking to move, this can give you a huge advantage when renewing or looking for upsell opportunities. Simple things make clients feel important and that you looked into them to actively assist them and their move forward.

Encourage peer-to-peer learning and collaborative problem-solving to build confidence and adaptability

In my overall experience I believe consistent efforts in upskilling is important in career . It helps us to get introduced to technology advancements irrespective of domain.

With no plan you plan to fail. Learning is apart of the experience and process. Being open minded and understanding the process is key.

I Stay up-to-date on industry trends and developments. it is constantly changing, so it is important to stay informed about the latest trends and developments in your industry. This helps me to better understand my clients' needs and develop solutions that meet their unique requirements.

Application of learnings is critical . Often times , situations change dynamically and we tend to react rather than respond . Its important to acknowledge that natural instinct would take over ,but to achieve the zen state - one needs to continuously apply the learnings and reorient one’s habits - every singe time .

If you are a sales leader leading an accounts team, an account management training framework is vital to support your team. Different industries have different ways of "managing" and "growing" accounts. Therefore, it's important that you as a sales leader develop a clear roadmap of skills competencies to drive and motivate your team to grow and learn as a continuous process. Examine: what are the baseline must-have skills for your industry, what are nice-to-haves? What defines client success? A good sales leader will be able to clearly articulate the business needs when it comes to supporting sales growth through staff enablement.

Doers learn best from those who ‘do’ or have ‘done’ the job. So learn from each other in the team. (Or those in other teams with the same role). If you can create a continuous learning loop within your account management function whereby you each share a best practise regularly, then you will constantly raise the bar across the group, and by helping others, you will help yourself.

In my experience, be an outside-in-thinker rather than an inside-out thinker when it comes to account management. By this I mean, understand what the client needs and is trying to solve as compared to aggressively trying to push for a quick deal. This will give great insight on the gaps between what skills you have and the customer pain point.
