Using both an XML sitemap (for information to crawlers) and an HTML sitemap (for information to humans and SEO signals) is my recommendation. Most developers are able to write simple scripts to generate Html Sitemaps. This is more useful if it is updated whenever pages are added and is otherwise static.

Add attributes such as <lastmod> and <priority> to your XML sitemap. For search engines, this will give additional signals about which pages of the site should be indexed first. The <changefreq> attribute can also be used to signal the scan rate. However, problems may arise when using it. For example, if the value is set to "daily", and the page has not been updated for several months. Another example is that <changefreq> is set to "yearly", but the page is updated every week.

It would be useful to create a good internal linking in html sitemap. Because search engines usually crawl pages and find links. If search engine dont find link to page mentioned in sitemap. It would probably not rank it or prioritize it

Even non-ecommerce websites can benefit from this approach. For example, a website that offers various services can create a parent page called "services" and make all individual service pages its children. This results in a hierarchy, such as /services/service1, /services/service2, and so on.

For large-scale and complex sites, create multiple sitemaps. For example, for products, articles, news, etc. If there are tens of thousands of product offers on the site, create sitemaps for each large category. It is recommended to use a Sitemap index file to group multiple Sitemaps. As a result, one Sitemap index file (instead of several ones) can be added to robots.txt.

3 Follow the size and limit guidelines

There are some size and limit guidelines that you should follow when creating your sitemap, to ensure that it is accepted and processed by search engines. The maximum size of a single sitemap file is 50 MB, and the maximum number of URLs per sitemap file is 50,000. Do not add URLs that are closed from indexing to the sitemap, for example, in the robots.txt file or with the <meta name="robots" content="none"> meta tag. Also, do not add non-canonical and technical pages (Errors 404, 403 and others).
