How do you stay current with HR skills?

SHRM is a great organization to join to keep current on your HR skills, there are others but this in particular is my favorite. You can also find a mentor and invest in that relationship. Universities offer online courses as well to improve on more specific skills, like crash courses if you will.

I follow the research results and business design and forecasting reports of global consulting firms such as Gartner, McKinsey, BCG, Bersin, Mercer, Korn Ferry, Willis Tower Watson, Universum, GPTW, etc. I follow business books, magazines and podcasts on cutting-edge approaches in people and culture fields. I participate in roundtable meetings and professional workshops where various topics are discussed.

My best advise is never stop search for more knowledge. Besides to be a curious mind, I am a learning addicted, because I have conscience that continuous learning = continuous improvement. Each one of us has their one learning mindset, individual or in group, differentiate paths of knowledge, but in the end, the ones that don't continue to learn and eager of doing things better, will not evolve. I specifically like to learn from all kind of people: candidates, coworkers, people that aren′t connected with me professionally but many times give me life lessons on how to manage people and how to improve it, sometimes just by listen to them and their experiences, needs, expectations.

My experience has taught me that I learn best from my own mistakes—simple yet true. Additionally, I feel the most significant impact on my expertise when I dive into something entirely new or challenging. Immersing myself completely in a field allows me to think creatively, test hypotheses, and discuss challenging issues with trusted peers.
