In my last experience as a Portfolio Manager, my ex boss was promoted to another job position and I was promoted to his position. Consecuently, we had to look for somebody to fill my tasks. Some people for our team moved with my ex boss′new team, so, we were many months with open vacancies. As the recruitment process was delayed, I decided to train our staff. We had 1 to 1 sessions ( very organized but acelerated) and I also ask my Operations Managers and customers to support us in this strategy. I promoted 5 team leaders, 2 Operations Managers, 1 planner and 1 admin support in 1 year. This admin support was able to move to another departament to develop her career. It was a rewarding experience and will do it again with no doubt.

In my experience, I hire for project managers that take ownership of their work and drive projects forward. After finding the right team, I motivate them by letting them know I trust in them to run projects without having to check in on me. My main role in their projects is to remove obstacles, offer guidance and escalate issues to the right level for resolution.
