How do you share your speaker feedback?

One way to gather feedback is for a trusted individual (mentor) to observe the speech and provide feedback. Critical feedback on content, speed, body language and facial expression will provide valuable insights.

I use an app called TalkaDot to gather audience feedback as a conference speaker. I get immediate results that are beautifully displayed. I can share them with the person who hired me immediately OR in a debrief after the program.

I make reviewing and feedback, testimonials etc a part of my speaking business process, so that it is not something 'extra' it's done as an SOP. I manage it using my CRM platform, so all comments etc are captured and kept along with all the information about the speaking event.

After each talk, take a moment to highlight what went well—like your storytelling and how you engaged the audience. Also, spot areas where you could tweak things, maybe in transitions or with visuals. When sharing feedback with yourself, keep it constructive and friendly, offering ideas to try next time. Stay open to input from peers and organizers to keep growing as a speaker. Each gig is a chance to learn and polish your delivery, making sure your message hits home better with each audience.

I like to do a LinkedIn post about the audience and event when I am the speaker. My audiences love this because they will usually wish to comment with key takeaways. It allows us to extend the conversation naturally.

Again, making this part of your process as a professional speaker is key. I always record a personalised video before and after the event for the booker to share with their audience. This helps encourage them to attend the event, and also reinforces the key messages so they see the benefits long after the conference. Arriving early and staying round at the event gives you plenty of opportunity to connect and engage the audience too.

Follow up with opportunities for further discussion to support ongoing improvement.

I usually post on LinkedIn thanking the hosts for having me and provide a short summary and takeaways from my presentation. This way, the hosts know I'm grateful and my audience know what I've spoken about with future hosts seeing my summary too!

Professional speakers should always have a pre and post-event briefing call with the client. When it's an expectation, everyone knows the process and it makes it easy to get feedback so you are constantly improving as a speaker.

I wouldn’t share feedback with people I don’t know well unless they asked for it. The person receiving the feedback must trust the person giving it (or at least respect that person’s opinion). Without it, the feedback may not be well received or fall on deaf ears.

When giving feedback to your peers on their presentations, begin by pointing out what they did well, like their engaging storytelling or clear organization. Then, suggest specific areas for improvement, such as adding more vocal variety or fine-tuning their slides. Offer practical tips they can use, such as including interactive elements. Keep it supportive, showing you believe in their growth. Ask them to reflect on their performance too, like what they felt worked best and what they could tweak. Follow up later to see how they're doing and cheer them on as they keep improving!

I like to listen the audience on the spot after the finish the presentation, especially we can see their expressions how they feel and maybe can give u even more precise feedback to us. Of course we don’t have the time so by email or QR code is more convenient nowadays. I like Eric share the emotional engagement by vocal, body language, the speed or even our expression. All these is very practical and attractive way to improve. We can practice our own styles how to have some iconic and sticky style like what I remember Eric shares iconic Ouch but I can’t remember the speaker name haha…

Having a close tribe of speakers you refer to and who refer you is a must as a professional speaker. We aren't always available or capable of speaking on all topics and it's ideal to be able to recommend someone else. Caution here though - make sure you know the speaker well and can trust they will deliver!

This is the 'chicken v egg' issue most speakers starting out have. They want to get booked but need evidence that they have been booked! Sharing your speaking engagements, tagging those who booked yu, thanking the audience, sharing a key message or out-take...it doesn't take much, but this is real proof you can master the stage and get booked and rebooked to speak. The secret is to keep going!

Though I always have an idea of how well the presentation went (or didn't), the reality lies with the audience. Their feedback is what matters and gives me the right "temperature" about the content and delivery. If they are happy and energized, that feedback will almost certainly make it to the event organizer.
