As your product grows and you have more resources to allocate, it's important to think about how your team can independently work on multiple areas of your product at the same time without becoming too siloed. Take a dating app for example. You'll want to run onboarding experiments to increase the % of users signing up, but you'll also want to run experiments to increase the activation rate (let's say this is defined as 1 successful match and at least 5 messages with this match). One of challenges is that there's a likelihood that experiments that impact the onboarding rate will also impact activation rate. So results need to be shared. Rapidly growing products therefore need to iterate on their processes and communication between teams.

Well, it's an unpopular perspective but it's workable in a lot of scenarios. Being unstructured while starting off a new product sometimes help a lot, for say we did a product and I had an option to hire one Product guy and it got boiled down to two candidates, one had product experience & the other only had tangential experience. I went with the less experiences person because it seemed he can be mouldable to the product values & culture we want to uphold for the future. And it turned out to be great. One thing I have learnt in my career is sometimes disorganised company structure helps you with lots of learning as you do it yourself. The best of way of scaling is, start small, hire people who breathe your start-up values & culture.

Creating a continous feedback loop with the customer is critical in this stage. There are features which would make your product look cool, there are features that will make your users love your product, and finally there are features that will make your users pay for your product. Creating a continuous feedback loop with the user will help you prioritise the right features towards product growth.

Truth is, your product is likely overloaded with stuff no one really cares about or values. So, what's the real game-changer? BE RUTHLESS—slash 20% of your features every quarter (or whatever works). It’ll force you to focus on what truly moves the needle and free up resources, all while keeping your team agile, focused, and driven. It’s not an easy path to walk, but it’s the FASTEST route to grow while avoiding unnecessary complexity. Of course, to do so, you must BE CLOSE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS—find ways to regularly engage with them, gather their feedback, and listen to their needs.
