How do you prioritize which bugs to fix?

I prioritize bugs based on their level of annoyance to our customers. If a bug is causing widespread frustration and impacting user experience, it gets bumped to the top of the list. Of course, I also have a soft spot for the really weird, quirky bugs that make me scratch my head in confusion – those always get special attention too.

While fixing bugs, executing with a strong ROI mindset is paramount. ROI has two main components:- Return and Investment Return must be evaluate by answering below questions - How many users or customers are impacted by the bug? - How critically the bug impedes the user workflow? - Are there any easy workarounds for the user? Investment must be evaluated by answering below questions:- - What is the total development and QA bandwidth required to fix the bug? - What can be the potential side effects of fixing this bug? (Negative side effects mean negative impact). - Does fixing this bug align with the long term product strategy? (Does the bug belong to a feature which we would not want to extend further?)

Despite the fact that impact of bug is most important or even critical, the secondary priority is also matters. E.g. if 2 bugs have the same impact, the simplest one should be fixed first. This way you close more issues for the fixed time period.

As a designer, I prioritize bugs based on user impact far more than technical complexity. My focus is on: Disrupting the user journey: Bugs that block core functionalities or cause data loss get top priority. A frustrated user is a lost user! Impacting user experience: Annoying bugs that hinder usability, like slow loading or broken navigation, need addressing to keep users engaged. Visual inconsistencies: Bugs that break branding or layout immersion can erode trust, so they require attention. While technical factors matter, I believe addressing bugs that directly impact the user experience is crucial for building a successful and trusted product.

From a designer's perspective, the effort of fixing bugs isn't just about lines of code.
