We recommend utilizing the same platform for Punch, Field Observations and incomplete work items. In this way an item in a field report can identify the critical items needing to be addressed quickly and assign priority to them. If these Field Observations are not completed prior to Punch, these same Field observations can be cited or referenced as 'Incomplete Work Items'. Similarly, if Field Observations and IWI's are not completed by Punch, they are referenced in the Punch item. Typically, items that were found early and not mitigated before punch may not get completed satisfactorily however, as an owner or AoR you have record or early requests for compliance. Some platforms can automatically send reminders before or on due dates. Administrators or Project management can create dashboards to see and track these types of items through to completion.

Im not sure that I agree that cosmetic items are low priority, maybe being compared to structural or life safety items sure. But once you reach the owners or Architectural punch, they are just as important. Remember, at this time, the GC has typically said that they are "substantially complete" which is legal terms for "pay me" lol...not really but you get my meaning. Then the Owner or the AoR under Construction Administration has the job of determining if the project meets the standard of care, the specifications and quality workmanship. We typically find the same type of items in all areas. therefore, it's important to get out in front as much as possible, show these items to the GC and trade and get preventative vs reactionary.

In today's world the small cost of a punch platform will save you significant money managing your rework, your teams, trades and your relationships. Yes, timely communication is key for all stakeholders. On large hospitality projects like hotels, our recommendation is to punch, sync and report after each room. In some cases, the trades are actually on your heals, if you sync up right away, they can actually see their items in the platform. Similarly, we go old-school and hi-tech simultaneously. Where possible we will put a wi-fi color printer on that floor, punch sync, report AND print. We then take the hard copy report, put it in a sleeve and hang it on the door. This way the trades actually doing the work can see right away what needs to be done and sign off when completed. Ownership, GC, management, etc. can also see overviews of all open items, trends and obstacles. Efficiency
