It can help you skip the generic small talk and jump right into conversations that actually matter. A little prep goes a long way in making real connections! As for your elevator pitch, make it short and sweet and to the point. The aim is to learn about the person you're speaking to and then you can tailor your conversation around topics that are interesting to the both of you.

Attention au pitch. Il doit servir quand on vous demande "ce que vous faites" et non pas à chaque échange social. C'est un outil, ?a ne définit pas qui vous êtes dans sa globalité. Pour être s?r que vous êtes clair : pitchez devant quelqu'un qui n'est pas du tout de votre secteur (grand-parents par exemples). S'ils comprennent = vous êtes clairs.

Events mean a "lot of people" ; and the important part about manoeuvring a lot of anything is based on how many can you meaningfully engage with. Typically 5-7 meaningful conversations per day is a very good number (for cold connects). So the first step is to know who are those professionals / attendees you would like to connect with - whats their background and how you can strike a chord. Prepare : Pre- draft an introduction message which is precise - it reflects on your preparedness and everyone appreciates that. Also always assume there would be no data, you would have very limited time etc - hence pre practice interactions - and make sure the first few seconds on your conversation are what you want them to recall.

Only after you help without immediate expectation of return should you consider introducing your services. When you go to a networking event, especially one you've not been to before, trying to pitch ideas or sell your services is very risky. If I meet someone for the first time and they start trying to sell to me I'm immediately put off. That's why I suggest getting good at "Authentic Sales" - make hints to qualities your business has but make sure it's in context with the conversation. That way if you get asked to say more then you've created a well flowing conversation while also selling your services/ideas. Even then, it can sometimes be a lot better in new networking environments to simply meet as many new people as you can and work out who you want to follow up with.

Cut the elevator pitch nonsense. Seriously, it's time to ditch it. Why? Because it screams insincerity and salesy tactics. Who even came up with this idea of squeezing your life story into a 30-second elevator ride? It's beyond me. And to make matters worse, some folks even add jingles to their spiel. I mean, come on! Here's the deal: Just be straightforward. Tell people what you do, plain and simple. You sell software? Say, "I sell software." You're in telecom? Let 'em know, "I sell telecom." You deal with promo products? Keep it real, "I sell promo." No need to get all fancy—it's just a defense mechanism to keep people from flinching when you tell them what you do. Just keep it real.

When you leave a networking meeting, nobody will remember what you said. But they will remember how you made them feel. The tone of your voice, the confidence of your speech and the body language you employ will impact how others remember you.

Well learnt this the hard way. So certainly coming out of experience!
