Something I like to do is film assets in a higher quality than I ultimately export them in. For example, I'll film in 4K and export / publish in 1080. Why? Well, because the world isn't quite 4K-or-bust yet when it comes to consuming content, especially on the devices where they're likely to find you (phones and laptops). But: those higher res raw assets allow for a much richer look, which will only help you out. Someday, 4K might become the true viewing standard. But honestly, by then, you should probably be filming in 6K or 8K raw anyway.

Looking for a way to "pre-size" your final assets. Sometimes when editing, I like to use "safety zones." These are essentially just square / rectangle guidelines which you can overlay on your project mid-edit to get a sense of how your asset would look if cropped down -- or how it would look if you were to intentionally export in a different ratio. And thankfully, you can find endless "safety zone" templates from creators on YouTube etc, who often offer them as freebies to their audiences.
