I think it is important to listen in when a meeting is agenda driven but if participation is encouraged I personally take the opportunity to speak up or ask a question, always keeping in mind the audience, reading the room and thinking about the intention of the communication that I am adding.

It’s important to me to applaud great ideas in a meeting, daring voice, who paint a realistic picture and keep it positive yet add a substance that hasn’t been mentioned this far by others. If my idea is too strong for the room I may decide to schedule a separate meeting, 1:1, to make my point known, ask for clarity or show my unique perspective on the situation.
