The number one way to negotiate your salary that I've personally used is to focus your conversation on the value you are bringing to the organization. Think of a salary as a payment for your labor, you are selling labor in exchange for funds, how much is your labor worth and how much value are you providing? For instance, if you know that your labor directly results in $X increased value for the organization (in which you previously worked) then making that case as a precursor to asking for more money can help support the ask by laying groundwork so they know what they are getting. If you can make a case of the value of your labor being say $600,000 over a 1 year period then asking for a quarter of that ($150,000) is not as frightening.

One of the most challenging subjects in my opinion. Here's the thing, in a large organisation personnel are charged to the project based on pool rate. The person who liaise closely with you in the project would know your worth, but he/she doesn't know your wages (as he only sees pool rates). The direct manager on the other hand doesn't necessarily realise your true values, viewing the talent pool uniformly while hoping to keep the rates unchanged or even lower. In a smaller organisation, lean execution model is desired and you know what it means. As a project personnel, it is difficult to present your skills & achievements to an "outsider". Best is to demonstrate but as mentioned above, it is often being showcased to the wrong individuals.
