Currently the US has a flat 21% tax on local profits, if any entity has foreign income or losses that also needs to be factored in and there are limits on certain deductions that can be taken or over what duration that need to be deducted on.

Uganda serves as an example, imposing a Value Added Tax (VAT) on the importation of services, provided they would have been VATable had they been supplied within Uganda. My UK client moved over to the UAE. Said client owns shares in a UK property company with other family members, as well as cash and other assets. I advised on and dealt with a personal tax case recently where one of my clients, residing in UK, did sell his shares at a gain, in US (where he has not been residing for more than 6 years now). The terms and conditions that must be met before the application of tax treaties are typically outlined in local tax laws. To counteract a practice known as treaty shopping, wherein entities engage in aggressive tax planning to exploit tax treaties and avoid taxation, countries are adopting Beneficial Ownership (BO) requirements. These requirements specify that the tax treaty only applies if the Beneficial Owner (BO) of the income is a resident in the other country involved. It's important to note that countries define Beneficial Ownership differently, adding a layer of complexity to these regulations.

Depending on the type of income, the tax treaties determine the rules, which country has the right to tax your income first and which country gives the tax relief - that is, taxes the rest. For example, the income from the immovable property is typically taxed only in the country where the immovable property is situated, regardless of your tax residency. However, the income from employment, is often shared between the country of work and the country of your tax residence. It depends, how long have you been working in the other country and where is your employer located.

It is crucial to recognize that disclosure requirements vary across jurisdictions. Filing obligations may necessitate comprehensive disclosures concerning cross-border transactions with related parties in some countries, whereas others may not mandate such detailed disclosures.

Big thing to remember in the US, even if you file for an extension, its only an extension to file not an extension to pay. Also, the IRS and states want the money during the year not simply on April 15th so make sure you file your estimated tax payments and required which is different between federal and states.

Hire a competent tax consultant to help with your registrations filings and other necessary documentations. The consultant can also advise appropriately on steps to take

I agree with the point wherein you will have to follow different deadlines for different countries while filing your tax returns. Example the fiscal year in the US is Jan-Dec and tax return deadline is April or May of the following year. India, the fiscal year is April- March and tax return deadline is July or September (depending on applicability of tax audit). Hence one needs to be diligent in planning the cross-border taxation at different time intervals and not just resort to one countries tax filing deadline.

Tax legislation is one of the most constantly changing areas of law so be sure to get updated advice even if only to reconfirm that the previous position remains extant.

In case of claiming tax credits for the tax withheld in other countries, the tax withheld certificate or tax deduction certificate from the other country becomes an important document. In India, one has to upload the unique identification details from the tax deduction certificate obtained from the country in which tax is deducted, to claim lawful credit of tax against tax liability in India. Hence, please be aware about the documentation and not technical compliances of the tax treaties to be able to claim eligible taxation reliefs.
