Even if you can, it's always possible something is missed, or it fails in a way you're not watching for. It's important to conduct periodic (daily if possible) "double checks" on the system. Compare active accounts against the HR termination list, new hire list, etc...

It's important to keep in mind that many integrations are still not carried out in real time, but in batch or NRT mode. The level of monitoring must be adapted accordingly. This must always be validated: - Connection between the GIA tool and the target (this can be done using connection tests or other means) - Validation of job status (success or failure, and if failure, alerting) - Data protection by implementing consistent thresholds to avoid versioning a large amount of data (e.g. if there is an error in the application target) - Data validation through statistical monitoring (e.g. to ensure that the number of accounts does not suddenly decrease, or that no activity has taken place for several days when this is usually the case).

it is require to monitor IAM integrations continuously. SIEM plays crucial role in monitoring. also these integrations uses the certificates which expires after a period, API uses OAuth, connectors uses passwords which need rotation, and most important the targets systems are keep on upgrading, so sometimes connection breaks due to upgrade in API or support to previous versions. it is safe to integrate with SIEM, but also required to keep a eye on above mentioned key points.

IAM logs and available error codes are starting point of troubleshooting the error. you can increase the log level so you get full picture of actually what is broken. i don't think wireshark kind of network analyzers are good idea to use in production. you can use notepan++ for better view, you can use browser inspect feature, saml tracers. also you can look for integrations users validity and certitifaces validity. key and tokens status. also change in network port and DNS entries cloud be the issue. DB could be full or any product bug which needed patch may occurred. Even the changes in loadbalancer configuration should be troubleshooted.

The first step before we start troubleshooting IAM is to identify what changed, if it was working, when it comes to Production support - Was there a change in the version - Was any patches applied - Was there any uninformed IT infra changes , such as firewall changed or new introduced or any application being patched etc. If it is a new implementation then the traces and logs will give enough info If the issue was post migration from DEV / QAT to production so what exactly was different in both the IT environments . IAM is a product which integrates with multiple applications ,via network so it is necessary that any change in the IT environment needs to be communicated with the IAM team . Rather than leaving them to a goose hunt .

Since, each IAM implementation is different, I usually prefer to follow these rules: 1. Document which components being used and for what purpose. This wpuld include: cloud based or hosted, custom or vendor products, integration points and technologies. 2. Document sequence of each interaction. 3. Brainstorm all potential point if failures. 4. Create process to determine risk levels based on failure points. 5. Setup automated process with constant improvements on monitoring each failure point. 6. Setup a spot check process to make sure that data is properly processed and SLAs are met. P.S. do not forget that any service rely on network and other support services. Therefore, all of the steps above should include them too.
