There are a number of guidance tools available for how to do this, and when balanced with proper due diligence of assessing, engaging and monitoring supply chain, mean less chance of suppliers hiding risks. When suppliers understand that buyers realise they are maybe part of the problem too and remediation is a partnership in which buyers may guide, support, and reward (with business) improvement, we see better transparency, risk reduction, and supply chain environmental, social, stability and productivity improvement.

Remediation does not seem to have been covered here despite it being one of the six steps expected for supply chains due diligence under the EC CSDDD (Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive) "CS3D". On a day to day basis, buyers might be engaging suppliers to encourage that safety, wages, contracts, and other issues are remediated for workers. Buyer companies must ensure they reward suppliers who deliver such remediations if they want them to continue, and to have verifiable risk reductions.
