1 Dimension 1: Actors

Actors are the individuals, organizations, and institutions that participate in the innovation ecosystem. They can be classified into four types: innovators, enablers, connectors, and influencers. Innovators are the ones who generate, develop, and implement new ideas, products, or services. Enablers are the ones who provide support, funding, or infrastructure for innovation. Connectors are the ones who facilitate communication, collaboration, and learning among actors. Influencers are the ones who shape the culture, policies, and regulations that affect innovation. To measure this dimension, you can use indicators such as the number, diversity, and quality of actors in each type.

2 Dimension 2: Interactions

Interactions are the relationships and exchanges that occur among the actors in the innovation ecosystem. They can be formal or informal, direct or indirect, and local or global. Interactions enable the flow of knowledge, resources, and value among actors, and they can foster trust, cooperation, and feedback. To measure this dimension, you can use indicators such as the frequency, intensity, and diversity of interactions among actors, as well as the degree of openness, reciprocity, and alignment of interests.

3 Dimension 3: Outputs

Outputs are the tangible and intangible results that emerge from the innovation ecosystem. They can be classified into four categories: inventions, innovations, impacts, and spillovers. Inventions are the new ideas, products, or services that are created by innovators. Innovations are the inventions that are successfully adopted or commercialized by users or markets. Impacts are the economic, social, or environmental benefits that innovations generate for the ecosystem and society. Spillovers are the positive or negative effects that innovations have on other actors, sectors, or regions. To measure this dimension, you can use indicators such as the number, quality, and value of outputs in each category, as well as the degree of novelty, relevance, and sustainability.

4 Dimension 4: Context

Context is the external environment that influences the innovation ecosystem. It can be divided into four domains: culture, policy, market, and technology. Culture is the set of values, norms, and beliefs that shape the attitudes and behaviors of actors toward innovation. Policy is the set of rules, regulations, and incentives that enable or constrain innovation. Market is the demand and supply of goods and services that create opportunities and challenges for innovation. Technology is the availability and diffusion of tools and methods that facilitate or disrupt innovation. To measure this dimension, you can use indicators such as the level of support, stability, and dynamism of each domain, as well as the degree of fit, coherence, and adaptability of the ecosystem to the context.
