If the data is unstructured such as image, video or text, then it is advisable to consider deep learning, as feature selection is a complex problem, if we adopt machine learning models, where it is advisable to support the model training with huge amount of data, so as more computation cost as compared to machine learning models is acceptable.

To assess its effectiveness, pre processed data has to be used to train the model which needs to be evaluated using suitable metrics.
