How do you measure the effectiveness of your incentive program?

1. Objectives must be clear and well communicated to the stakeholders. 2. Good participation rate from expected population. 3. Budgeted incentives are maximized and distributed to the identified contributors. 4. Lower attrition rate. 5. High productivity.

Objectives must be "REALISTIC". There have been too many times when corporations have set objectives and goals that are too difficult for employees to achieve. Such actions lower employees moral and creates distrust in the workforce. You must create objectives that are clear and achievable. Review each of the objectives and take into account of any obstacles and constraints before implementing into the workforce.

There are five ways on top of my mind: 1) Higher productivity. 2) Zero, if not almost zero absences. 3) Low attrition rate. 4) High number of employee ideas. 5) Happy workers.

Another, employee satisfaction surveys can gauge how motivated and appreciated employees feel as a result of the program. An important indicator is the retention rate - if employees stay longer after implementing incentives, it suggests they effectively boost morale and loyalty. Financial metrics such as ROI and cost per outcome can also be used to evaluate the success of an incentive program. By analyzing these various measures, businesses can determine their incentive programs' overall effectiveness and value in driving performance and achieving organizational goals.

I think metrics are important here to show employee retention. How long an employee stays in the company and possibly more importantly, if they grow within the company. If you have a very good employee, that's capable, they're will to stay within an organization their entire career...if given the right opportunities (sometimes this means changing roles and departments). Turnover is big but you aren't going to retain everyone. Are the right talents staying and growing organically within the organization or getting burnt out?

I think the one on one skip levels (when an EE has a meeting with their bosses boss for example), is useful. Surveys are good as well, when they're confidential.

What is the point of having an incentive program without recognizing those who contributed to it. Each of the successes should be used as templates for others to follow. Especially, if those successes results in cost savings and promote employee's moral.

Different people respond to positive incentive reinforcement differently. Some want money. Some want to be recognized publicly. Some want a hand written note and no public attention. Cater the incentive (outside of STI/bonus) to the employee, if possible. But realize that money helps a person's finances. How you make someone feel, that can really change their lives and give you an employee that will give you their all.
