One thing I've found helpful is to have 80% of a newsletter content to be simply value driven. No asking to purchase or promo. The goal of a newsletter is to stay top of mind with your readers. They may not need your service or product today but in the future they may and you want them to think of you first. That will not happen without staying in front of your ideal client on a consistent basis.

Open rates only tell you if your subject line was good enough to get the prospect to open the email. While open rates are important to track, they have become less reliable in the past few years. The click rate is the metric that will tell you engagement of your email. A good click rate is 2%. The click can take prospects to a social media profile page. It doesn't always need to be to a sale page or landing page. You simply want the click. This will drive up the deliverability of your emails. Will unsubscribes should be evaluated, take them with a grain of salt unless they really big numbers from previous month. Then you need to find out why.
