How do you manage the transition and handover of the project to the operational team or the client?

In software implementation, like ERP, SCM, CRM and others, the handover is a key success factor. And it starts with the cutover and handover plan. This plan must have the detailed cut-over, which are the activities that project team must execute to prepare for the solution Go Live. Once we have the Go Live, we start the hyper care phase, where the project team are still responsible for the solution support. During the hyper care we start the handover plan, where the activities and the responsibility for solution support (including enhancements, corrections and bug fix) are transferred for the production on going team.

Have a well defined plan outlining specific activities, responsibilities, and timelines for knowledge transfer, documentation handover, training sessions, system/product walkthroughs, and post-implementation support. Establish clear acceptance criteria and conduct thorough testing and validation before the official handover.

If you're mindful of how you'll transition at the end of the project, you'll adjust your approach to better position your team for the end stage. Ensure everyone is clear about what 'done' looks like and how this will be objectively evaluated. Put everything in writing so there's no ambiguity or surprises when the transition is forthcoming.

It's crucial to secure their formal approval and acknowledgment that the project is completed and officially closed. Additionally, document any remaining issues and establish a plan for resolution or escalation as needed

It is a best practice that should be more used in implementation projects.
