The BIM is a good method for creating a great database. Our objectives and our expectations are influential parameters for developing this database. For example, you expect to provide a complete material list or take off; therefore, Lod 500 or 400 is proper, or your favorite is management considerations; so, you need special software to analyze, therefore, your L.O.D. can be lower because you need to develop a program. The cost depends on your objectives. Our expectations assign professional people.

One of the tools can be used is Revit MEP to coordinate, design and follow the process of the MEP design according to the objectives of the project, and ensure involvement of all parties in the workflow. Data should be tracked ,monitored and distributed properly in time and by means to be understood for all concerned. Backup of all stored data should be available to minimize errors or conflicts. Lessons learned should be recorded for the coming projects referring to the problems and solving techniques is one of the best solutions to manage the quality.

Un CDE es clave, una organización documental y de datos es fundamental no solo para procesos asociados a BIM, si no para la empresa en sí misma, sin embargo cometemos errores en el entendimiento de lo que el CDE significa, por un lado pueden existir varios CDE dentro de una organización esto no quiere decir que sea malo, lo importante es tener claro la funcionalidad y como se integra hacia la visualización y la interacción con el usuario que finalmente está sujeta a los mismos roles y alcances, ej: documentación técnica, jurídica, financiera, por otro lado la estructura de datos, la forma de caracterización documental, el almacenamiento, las interacciones de validación, accesibilidad e intervención, deben estar alineadas a los procesos.

Al principio, quien empieza, quizás sea muy complicado implantarle un CDE. Sin embargo sí que hay que tener los datos, y archivos estructurados. Una vez que ya tenemos experiencia, nos agiliza mucho el trabajo en BIM tener un CDE.

It should be divided in to 2 formats, one should be brief (A5 size handbook) covering the basics of BIM standards) and other a detailed one, even listing down the type of lines and line weights of Revit families in project template etc). This helps to determine how much has to be done within company to realise a BIM project having a requirement of 4D (before site works begin and atleast biweekly during the execution) and 5D models (from drafting phase).

Hay bastantes estándares y directrices que podemos aplicar. También se recomienda trabajar bajo la ISO 19.650 que es una normal para mejorar nuestro flujo de trabajo en BIM.

In my experience, auditing BIM data time to time during the project is essential and could save alot of time when IFC file has to be exported before a biweekly BIM meeting. We use to check every 3rd alternative day the model for a large project (where 5-6 architects are working at the same time) using audit functions in Revit and performing once a week clash detection in Navisworks so that we can reduce later on time spend on model correction.

Este punto es vital: Cada cierto tiempo se deben auditar los modelos BIM. La frecuencia puede estar reflejada en el contrato BEP para no seguir avanzando sin auditar los modelos.

Mi recomendación es que no invierta mucho tiempo en preparar guías extensas. BIM es novedoso, complejo, y además, evoluciona rápido. Un enfoque de formación continua es mucho más eficaz aunque requiera más tiempo. Piense en formaciones cortas (2-3 horas) cada 2 o 3 semanas.

En mi caso, lo que planteo son listas de verificación que se llenan fácil y ya tienen todo escrito. Es cuestión de ir tildando y al final da un conteo de los si y los no, o no aplican.

It is very important to have a session of lesson learned beyond the traid of personality. Keeping some sort of risk register is also somethign ISO19650 demands and should be consider to discuss during the lesson learned session and graphical representation of such data is quite helpful for the stakeholders for their future projects.
