Financial Analysis needs to tell a story. It needs to answer 4 main questions - What are the current numbers - Why do we have these numbers - What will happen next - How do we respond

Using tools as: Financial Planning and Budgeting, Performance Measurement and Key Performance Indicators, Cost Analysis and Management, Investment Analysis, Pricing and Revenue Optimization, Financial Risk Management, Financial Reporting and Communication and Cross-Functional Collaboration among others

It is essential to mix KPIs that the organization can influence. Many organizations focus on result KPIs instead of execution KPIs. For example, instead of focusing on market share (result), focus on actions (influence) that will help the goal, like availability or out of stocks. Result KPIs can have external explanations such as weather or economy. Execution KPIs should be more on control of the organization.

An analyst has to 1st get a clear view of the business function; what is it all about. Then financial analysis follows to find the economic truth. Then create a framework that can be evaluated from time to time by determining the quality of a company’s financial data and recommend appropriate adjustments to improve.

I find it extremely effective to think in the shoes of the reader - business leaders want concise and comprehensive information, and financial information needs to be simple and to the point. It helps to get feedback from users, I often get requests for data in specific columns and I get to learn to adapt to shape data into comprehensible bite-sized pieces that are clear shows the areas of risks/growth at one glance.

A simple version : Once a business model is established which is fundamentally about the path where a company can be profitable, then everything else is processes. Business and financial analysis help the executives to understand the process efficiency and uncover improvement area to grow the company, to keep the company competitive and to meet the needs of both internal and external stakeholders to justify its existence and values.
