As an emcee, you need to be able to improvise and inject humor into your events to keep your audience engaged, entertained, and energized. Jokes in the workplace are tricky. Best to keep it about general things like everyday life, something people can all relate to and laugh about, like traffic, weather, entertainment, economy, etc. Never subjects that are personal, like race, religion, politics, gender, family, etc. At the same time, we are all human and we will make mistakes, and the mistakes should be addressed right away. Games are a great way to have fun and laugh, music, and activities.
If you don’t take yourself too seriously and laughter at yourself - you’ll never offend anyone. But, is humour offending? I think that what are you stating here is controversial and contrary to the ethics of being an artist. You don’t choose your audience - audience is choosing you. I think that your statement contradicts the fundamentals of freedom of speech ( which is represented by comedy in all its aspects), freedom of expression, and freedom of boring ( for those who do not understand) - the basics of comedy, parody and satire brought 2500 years ago by Aristophanes, in the Athenian democracy. I like to add a personal story, concluding with a "lesson learned." I train my clients to speak using story aided by writing one 6,000 word chapter for a co-author book. This gives speakers a direction to enable them to craft a story of their own and using humour to help the audience understand the key points.
