How do you improve the impact of your video stories?

Let me tell you the steps to make it easy: Step 1: Start by understanding the core message and audience for your video. Step 2: Collect all necessary footage, audio, and assets. Step 3: Choose the best clips and remove unnecessary content. Step 4: Arrange clips logically to tell your story effectively. Step 5: Improve the quality of video and sound. Step 6: Incorporate transitions, effects, and graphics where needed. Step 7: Go through multiple rounds of editing to ensure alignment with your purpose. Step 8: Export your video in the desired format. Step 9: Share your video to achieve your intended purpose.

Target audience is the key... 1. Find out what the audience searched most in the past 2 months 2. Ensure you have the relative footages and info about those searches 3. Use really cool animations ( cool animations and colors helps to keep the attention) 4. Try to add Dynamic music with the content... Should use different musics with the relative parts of the videos . EX: intense music before questions, Chill music while giving the information.. 5. Need to keep the attention in the first 10 secs... First 10 sec is the most important part of the video... Based on the content of the 1st 10 sec people decides if they wanna watch the video further... Use a pickup line/Hook question ?? These should help you create a really engaging video.

The clearer your purpose, the clearer the message. And do not stray from that original intent. 1 purpose is easy to achieve. 3 messages still seems possible. 5 gets hard. 10 is impossible.

Know your purpose in connecting with your audience but most importantly be willing to adapt on the fly. Don’t stay stuck in your vision. Listen to key stakeholders. You won’t surrender creative control by listening to trusted sources.

Balance. What question is your video asking of its audience. What’s the why? What’s the core? This is your plot. For a video to have the big emotional impact, it helps to have a character. A subject, someone to empathise with. The ‘Everyman’ Balancing the narrative between plot and character helps the content not get weighed down in parts, keeps things moving and allows for dynamic storytelling.

I am a film grad and I have learned about the three-act structure in my film degree. You should have 3 acts in your story so it creates a sense of an emotional rollercoaster ride in the audience's mind. The setup, conflict, and resolution are the basis of what a great storyline is born.

All stories need structure. No matter which theorist you follow, the story must have heroes, antagonists, conflict, goals, and resolution for the audience's cathartic experience.

While the 3 act structure is the basis for millions of scripts, with innovative concepts, time travel, AI, Sci-fi, along with many indies don't strictly adhere to that structure. Having said that, master the constructs and then you can break the rules. But never be afraid of going outside the lines. That's where creativity begins!

Three-act nature is bit overused and the contrarian approach seems to work. With the short attention span that humans have developed, a teasing surprise at the beginning seems to work the best in my experience. A good example would be how Mr. Beast creates his videos. Even though he sets up the video at the intro, he teases the most ridiculous stunt of his video right at the beginning but cuts it before the satisfying ending. This not only surprises the viewer, it also gives them a purpose to keep watching.

“What’s in it for me?” With the myriad of platforms, you have to know where your content is going to be seen and optimize for it. Traditional 3 Act structure is great for long form (like Youtube) but doesn’t always work in high velocity platforms (IG, TikTok) You may want to explore 3-123: Lead with the outcome then approach the story as a process. Get the audience interested in what the end product is in that crucial first few seconds so they want to see how it was made. Start strong and Wow! them to make them stay on your video to see “How’d you do that?!” With how the platforms and audiences have changed, traditional structures may not always (commonly) be the best path to success.

Using best and long creative shots is the best way to convey the origin of the story. Give the viewer time to watch and think about the shots, this will hook the audience. Using fast phased edit also good but in this generation it is already over edited. Try to tell a story with the shots not with crazy transitions and effects.

Choosing the best shots involves three key steps. Firstly, understand the shots' purpose and audience. Next, evaluate based on composition, narrative relevance, and emotional impact. Finally, refine the selections considering coherence, storytelling, and overall impact. This systematic approach ensures the selection of shots that best serve the project's objectives.

Also you need understand your editing program so well and have experience with most of features it has. It help not only use four Cs, also make shot to four Cs

Agree. That's why I put editing strategy in the very first step of my personal workflow. All shots are already well-planned. No more wasted shots.

The pace/tempo of your video depends on your topic and who it is for. Avoid long, monotonous segments that may lose the viewer's interest. Add emotional appeal to connect with your audience on a deeper level. Use relatable characters, personal anecdotes, or emotional music to create a stronger impact. Choose music and sound effects that complement the mood and message of your video.

Rhythm is created by seducing your audience into an unspoken conversation. Who is that? What's s/he doing? What happens next? Anticipating where their attention goes allows you to guide that conversation in a tempo of your choosing.

Video Editor also should be good listener to songs, all genre of songs. it make good rhythm in video editing indirectly, if you tired from editing, take a break and just listen to song. it makes you work better in editing rhythm

Every project it likes a song. Also if you want to examine your final draft is good. Watch final result 3 times. First watch video without sound. from that you can determine with shot is too short to understand or too long. Second close your eyes and just listen to the audio, because viewer can take away eyes from video, but mostly never ears. third watch it video and audio together. you can see sync between them is good or not. for some reason for last part I couldn't contribute in last subject "what else to consider", I write down here: Knowing technical thing about video, camera, about directing , also shooting, it help you make better decision, also make you director assistant or second director in production, also in video editing.

One of my favorites is "Pleasantville," which takes it to a whole additional level. It begins with a black and white movie, slowly ramping up the color as the fictional town gains emotion.

Color grading is a definitive skill and just jamming up saturation and punching in some contrast, is not color grading. It's just hoping for the best. At a basic level, color correct first. Get the white balance correct (although this should be done in camera) - adjust the exposure if required. Look at the scopes. More importantly, the human eye will spot incorrect skin tones a mile away. As long as your skin tones look good (use the skin tone line) then it's a huge help.

There are three important rules to keep in mind when it comes to learning video editing techniques. 1- Watch videos, commercials, and films as much as possible. The more you watch, the more you will learn about the techniques used in video editing. 2- Study what you see and compare it with what you have done. This will help you identify areas where you need to improve and learn from your mistakes. 3- Avoid getting upset or frustrated during the editing process. It's important to remember not to judge your work until it's completed, as there can be a big difference between your beginning, mid-work, and final product. Many people get frustrated during the workflow before finishing their work, but it's important to stay calm and focused.

First and foremost, when I embark on video editing, I believe the most crucial step is to understand what cards I have in my hand. This involves reviewing the dailies to understand the content and actions and assessing the assets I have at my disposal (such as music, graphics, CG effects, and stock videos). At this point, clear ideas are born, and I can improve the director/producer's visions and begin editing to construct the story or content. If you skip this process, most of your ideas or visions will fail so I recommend you keep practicing how to watch long hours of dailies! Personally, I believe that once I comprehend the cards I have to play with in a particular editing project, around 80% of the work is already done.

I then take all of that organic content and weave it poetically into a narrative that moves audiences towards that desired outcome. In some ways, I equate it to being a maestro in a beautiful symphony that magically comes together. I tend to keep my soundbites short and move the viewer forward effortlessly.
