How do you improve automation reliability?

When we are starting automation work at that time we certainly have clear goals which tells what we are achieving using this automation And how it will save resource time But over period some time dev team do design change which will need complete change in automation. We need automation which adopts such huge changes also

Improving automation reliability involves several key steps. First, thoroughly analyze and understand the automation process, identifying potential failure points. Next, implement robust error handling mechanisms to anticipate and handle exceptions effectively. Validate input data to ensure accuracy and completeness. Implement redundancy and failover mechanisms to minimize downtime. Regularly monitor and log automation performance, allowing for proactive identification and resolution of issues. Lastly, continuously test and validate the automation process to ensure its reliability over time.

Use reliable simulators, test beds, servers to avoid unforeseen failures, which might eat up more time in analyzing them rather finding problems in product using automation. 3.Maintaining matrix for product features to automation code coverage helps in blunder of missing any gaps in product validation. 4.Robost Continous Integration and test environment setup using tools like Jenkins can help finding issues quickly in scheduled daily runs before our work day starts.

There are so many things to write, so I will keep it short to three factors that I see the most often. 1) Monitoring and Alerts: Set up continuous monitoring of automated processes with alerts for any deviations or failures. Proactive monitoring can prevent issues from escalating. 2)Employee Training: Train your team to understand and work with automated systems effectively. Knowledgeable employees can address issues more efficiently. 3)Continuous Improvement: Automation is an ongoing process. Encourage a culture of continuous improvement to identify opportunities for optimization and refinement.

Having defined metrics is but one step towards helping achieving automation reliability. The most crucial step is to have a clear picture of the entire process, with detailed, yet concise requirements and a good understanding of the systems/applications used. What happens if you enter a date in the wrong format? What if the email has a custom, niche domain? What if the document being processed is not in your regional format? The list goes on... Unless you understand all the variables there, the automation design will always encounter some unexpected issues.

Automation act independently and should be well evaluated that its response is timely, effective and efficient. The rate of response should also be monitored. It should be fast enough to prevent any significant lag in the process and 'slow' enough to limit perpetual 'hunting', a case where the system keeps adjusting almost continuously without break. This is because hunting put the physical asset through stress and thus making them wear out faster leading to an increase in maintenance costs, frequency and downtime.
