How do you identify the best employee trainers?

I go by a simple formula. A good trainer has to have a combination of 4 crucial elements,non-negotiable! SKEP -Skills -knowledge -Experience -Personality There can be varying amounts of these but they ALL have to be present.The impact of the trainer would massively differ if any one of these were missing.

In my experience, your preparation is worth as much as the trainer's knowledge and skills. If you lack structure and have unclear learning goals, even an incredibly knowledgeable SME can't deliver the desired results. As such, make sure you: ?? Specify your goals for effective measurement and impactful training. The more focused your objectives, the more meaningful the training for your employees. ?? Create an outline to help guide your future trainer in how their content fits the bigger picture (eg. rest of course, larger curriculum, etc.)

Several key qualities and skills we must look in trainers with deep subject matter expertise and excellent communication skills. Experience in training is crucial, as it often translates to better handling of diverse learning styles. Adaptability is important, allowing trainers to adjust methods for different formats and audiences. Effective trainers use engagement techniques like interactive activities and real-life examples. They seek feedback to improve, show empathy and patience, and often hold certifications from organizations like ATD or SHRM. These factors ensure impactful training sessions.

These are a few attributes , personal and professional that a trainer must have. 1. Active Listener 2. Creativity 3. Flexibility - an effective trainer will be flexible and be able to meet the demands of the learner with ease. 4. Approachable 5. Adaptable - all effective training is learner centric. So as a trainer he or she should be adapting to the training delivery style according to how the learners are responding. 6. Collaborative 7. Patience 8. Continuous Learner

I agree that the potential trainer has to have the credentials as well as the positive, professional and productive experience to go with the credentials... Hire a trainer with the skills, knowledge, experience and expertise to deliver the training with the right energy and exposure to fit in with adult learning and organisational objectives. Thank you.

For example types of programs conducted, employee cadre range catered to,sectors trained in and geographical diversity in terms of multiple locations. The most important qualities a Trainer needs to possess are Empathy and an Appetite for continuous learning besides Generosity in terms of sharing knowledge and experience. A touch of well-timed humour is the icing on the cake and the ability to make things simple would be the cherry on top.

After creating a list of potential trainers, you should take steps to verify their qualifications and experience. Check for any relevant certifications, degrees, or awards that demonstrate their expertise and credibility in the field. Skills and competencies are far more important these days than credentials. Expertise has to change much quicker for a post-pandemic workforce. I also appreciate a clear statement of learning objectives and preferred methods of instruction as well.

Virtual or in-person, energy is the name of the game! 2. Clarity and Structure: Clear communication is non-negotiable. A skilled trainer explains complex concepts with simplicity, using examples. A well-structured program keeps everyone on track. 3. Training Methodology: Variety is the spice of effective training. Look for a mix of assessments, case studies, exercises, and real-life examples. Interactive methods should be seamlessly woven in to keep participants engaged throughout.

Here are some Key Skills to be Evaluated : Communication Skills - Evaluate the Trainers Ability to Communicate Clearly and Effectively. Presentation Skills - Observe the Trainer's Presentation Style, ability to engage Audience Facilitation Skills - Assess the Trainer's ability to facilitate a Group Discussion or a Role Play. Look how he is managing a Group Dynamics. Feedback - Assess the trainers ability to Provide Constructive Feedback to Learners as well as how they are Mentoring them to improve their Skills and Performance. The trainers' publications, TedTalks, references, popularity within the branch give insights whether the trainer has succeeded in his/her job. It is not only what you say but how you say it, are you willing to know more of the subject, what do you remember after the training session and did it have any impact.

To begin with, understanding your financial constraints and setting a clear budget for training. This not only helps in negotiations but also streamlines your options. Next, you want to conduct a value assessment. It's not just about the price tag, so consider the value a trainer brings and look for a balance between cost and the quality of training. A slightly higher upfront cost may be justified if the training significantly benefits your team. Lastly, assess the potential ROI of the training - a more expensive trainer might offer skills that directly translate into improved productivity or innovation, making it a worthwhile investment.

Please start looking at Training as an investment and not as an expense. Besides,we all know how expensive it can turn out to be when you hire a Trainer mainly for low fees. ROI is a tricky business when it comes to behavioural training. Decide on a time frame and involve relevant stakeholders to monitor and report changed behaviour before and after the training. The atmosphere created by the Trainer in the training should be continued by stakeholders even after the training. If a flower doesn't bloom you don't fix the flower but the environment.

I do concede that cost is a factor but I would look at it as an investmen (more than a cost). If we get the right trainer at a premium, it may well be worth it as the team works better, are more productive leading to a healthier bottom line. I ask myself questions like Do they come across as knowledgeable, approachable, and professional? I always trust my gut feeling about whether this person seems like they would be a good fit for my organization. By trusting your instincts and taking a holistic approach to evaluate potential employee trainers, you can identify the best fit for your organization and ensure successful training sessions for your employees.

A good Trainer remains invested in your organisation,understands and appreciates the cultural fabric and aligns learning outcomes with mutually agreed upon learning objectives.
